And I'm sure this time, because it hasn't snowed in about a week. Less than 10 days ago, my husband had to snowplow the driveway. BUT all the snow has melted, creeks are running, frogs are calling their little hearts out, and the robins and killdeer have arrived. The kids play outside in the water and mud, bike all over and go through a couple of pairs of socks in a day, and the dog needs her feet wiped when she comes in. So it's definitely spring now.
I've started a number of my plants indoors and they are happily getting a head start on growing to be big and productive, and I have some new varieties this year which is always exciting. In case you are curious, starting plants early helps a lot for the ones that need relatively long growing seasons, and for the ones that need heat to grow. Generally this includes tomatoes and relatives (e.g., tomatillos and ground cherries, both of which I have started), peppers, eggplants, watermelons, and depending on where you are and what your gardening preferences are, some other vine crops.
Happy digging and/or playing in the spring weather!
